Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Dongil-ri dolmen group is a burial site built by the inhabitants of a nearby village during the Early Iron Age to Proto-Three Kingdoms period. The Dongil-ri dolmens lie in the south-western part of Seogwipo and are built, respectively, at lot 1614, 1628 and three others, Dongil-ri, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province [Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 1]; lot 1607 [Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 2]; lot 1619 [Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 3]; and lot 1619 [Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 4]. They stand on a low rise at the foot of Gasiak, an oreum (volcanic cone) 106.5 m high. Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 4 is set side by side with Dongil-ri Dolmen No. 3. Its capstone straddles a boundary between ground of differing height, so that part of it is covered in soil. The capstone is close to oval in shape, and its long axis is tilted about 45° from north towards the west. It measures 255 cm in length, 210 cm in width, and 35–52 cm in thickness. About three supporting stones have been identified; one, well finished, has shifted out of its original position. [Source: Academy of Korean Studies – Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture]
