Mandeoksa Temple Site
만덕사지 · 萬德寺址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krMandeoksa Temple is said to be the place where Seokgi, an illegitimate son of King Chunghye of Goryeo, was confined. Around a building site presumed to be that of the main hall, the foundations, cornerstones, roof-end tiles, and plain unpatterned bricks of surrounding buildings were found, and stones used for a stone pagoda, a Buddha pedestal, and a stone lantern lay scattered about. In February 1979 the Busan Metropolitan City Museum gathered the scattered pieces of the stone pagoda and restored a three-storey stone pagoda in the museum's garden. Judging from the style of the three-storey pagoda and the form of its flagpole supports, Mandeoksa can be presumed to have been built in the early Goryeo period and to have remained standing until the late Goryeo period.
