This is the tomb of General Sim Dae (1546–1592), posthumous title Chungjanggong, a civil official of the mid-Joseon period. In 1592, the fifth year of King Seonjo's reign, when the Imjin War broke out, he worked hard to recruit loyalist troops to protect the king, and as the momentum of the Japanese forces intensified he accompanied King Seonjo further on from Pyeongyang to Uiju. However, while planning the operation to retake Seoul at Sangnyeong (present-day Yeoncheon area), he was killed in a night raid by Japanese forces. The tomb originally had a single mound, but in 2004 an additional mound was created when the grave of his wife, of the Gwangju No clan, was relocated here. As a result, the original form of the burial has been altered, and the stone furnishings are a mix of old and new. Originally there was a myopyo (a stone marker inscribed with the name of the deceased) in front of the mound, but it no longer survives; a new myopyo has since been set up to the right of the mound's front. In front of the mound, an offering table and an incense-burner stone have been arranged in sequence, both newly installed in modern times. At the lower part of the tomb area stand a pair of mangjuseok (ornamental stone pillars) and a pair of munseogin (civil-official stone figures). The mangjuseok are of a neat, restrained form with detailed ornament omitted. The stone figures were added at a later date and are very small in scale; wearing tall, square-shaped official caps and holding ceremonial tablets, they combine the iconography of child stone figures and civil-official figures, a style that became popular from the 17th century onward.
