Yongamsanseong Fortress
용암산성 · 龍岩山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYongamsanseong is a fortress built making use of a steep slope at the top of a mountain about 380 m above sea level. Situated on the route linking Ansim and Hayang, it is thought, from its terrain, to have been an important strategic military site. The wall is about 1 km in circumference, and on the gentle slopes leading from the foot of the mountain up to the ridge on the fortress's west and south sides, artificial cliffs were created to guard against enemy invasion. In front of the cliffs is an entrance that appears to be the site of a gate, and in the northeast of the fortress interior is the site of a well. Judging from fragments of Silla pottery found inside the fortress, it is presumed to have been built during the Three Kingdoms period. Given that righteous-army volunteers from the Daegu region gathered and were active at this fortress during the Imjin War, it is believed to have remained in continuous use from the Three Kingdoms period into later ages.
