Dolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are generally understood to have been the graves of a ruling class with economic or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into two types: the table type, in which four supporting stones are set upright to form an above-ground stone chamber topped with a large, flat capstone, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small supporting stones set beneath the capstone. This dolmen, located in Oedong, Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, is of the go-board type; its capstone is 2.8 m long and its supporting stones measure about 0.88–0.9 m. The capstone bears six small cup-shaped hollows, known as seonghyeol, said to have been carved as prayers for a good harvest or for the birth of children. Below ground is a burial chamber built of rough stones, from which stone arrowheads, earthenware and other artefacts were excavated.
