Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGeumiseong Fortress is located in Songseong-ri, Jeondong-myeon, with a circumference of 714m, a height of 3–10m and a width of 2m. It was known as "Cheolseong," meaning Iron Fortress, and was also recorded as "Geumseong," meaning Gold Fortress; the Geumhyeonseong mentioned in the Samguk sagi is understood to be this very fortress. It was built on Geumseongsan, the highest peak of a mountain range running due north for 30 li from Geumsa-ri, overlooking Jeonui and Cheonan to the north and the area along the Geumgang River to the south. As a typical Baekje-period mountain fortress, it was solidly constructed making use of rugged terrain, forming what might be called an impregnable stronghold.
