Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGuseongdongsanseong is a mountain fortress in Guseong-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, built by making use of the terrain at the summit of Seongdusan Mountain, cutting the slopes inside and outside the hill to form steep fortress walls; it is also called "Geobukseong", or "Turtle Fortress". Today most of the walls have collapsed, and only the outline of the fortress can be traced. Inside the fortress a ditch 8–10 m wide runs around the interior, which appears to have been formed in the course of building the walls. The fortress can be divided into the North Fortress, built on the summit of Seongdusan Mountain, and the South Fortress, built along the ridge extending south from it. The northern wall is 330 m in circumference; its outer face was cut into a slope while the inner face was made flat, and there is a gate site in the northeastern part of the fortress. The southern wall is 250 m in circumference and commands a fine view over the broad plain below; there are two gate sites where it joins the North Fortress. Yuseong, where the fortress stands, is known to have been Nosaji County during the Baekje period.
