Daedeoksanseong Fortress is a pogok-sik (valley-enclosing) mountain fortress built to enclose the Anjiraengi Valley to the north from the summit of Daedeoksan Mountain in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu; it is also known as Apsansanseong Fortress. A pogok-sik mountain fortress is one whose walls enclose one or more valleys, built for prolonged use in warfare. According to old records, an earlier fortress of Seongbulsan Mountain stood in Suseong-hyeon, but today only traces remain of walls built of broken stone along the ridges and slopes of the mountain. The fortress is recorded as having had a circumference of 3,051 cheok, a traditional unit of length, amounting to about 3 km. Making maximum use of natural rock faces, the fortress has yielded pottery and roof-tile fragments that suggest it was in use from Unified Silla through the Goryeo period.
