Gongju Singwan-ri Stone Chamber Ancient Tomb
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

These are two tombs situated on a hill behind the village of Simok-dong. They are Baekje-period tombs, also known as the Simok-dong tombs, and Tomb No. 1 and Tomb No. 2 are almost identical in structure and scale. The burial chamber was built of several large stone slabs, with the passage located at the centre of the south side. The chamber is about 150 cm high, and its ceiling, rather than being flat, takes a hapjang-sik (gabled) form whose sides form the shape of the character 人 (person), a distinctive feature. The tombs were found already looted, so no burial goods remain. These tombs faithfully preserve the style of the mid-Baekje period and provide important material for research into tomb construction of that time.
