Neungheodae was the point from which envoys departed on their voyages to and from the Eastern Jin dynasty of China, used from 372, the twenty-seventh year of King Geunchogo, until 475, the first year of King Munju, when the Baekje capital was moved to Ungjin. At the time, Baekje's political situation was hostile with both Goguryeo and Silla, while China itself was divided into the Northern and Southern Dynasties, which were also opposed to one another. Under these circumstances, Baekje envoys, who maintained relations with the Southern Dynasties of China, were unable to use the overland route through Goguryeo, and instead sailed from Neungheodae by sea to Dengzhou and Laizhou on the Shandong Peninsula. Today, following land reclamation, apartment blocks and a recreational park have been developed here, so that the site now lies in the middle of the urban area. At present it has a small pavilion and a pond, and the pond contains an artificial waterfall and a fountain.
