Jungsan-dong Tumuli
중산동고분군 · 중산洞古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA large tomb complex formed during the Samhan and Three Kingdoms periods. Excavations in 1991 and 1993 revealed tombs of varied form, including stone-lined tombs, wooden chamber tombs set in earthen pits, stone-mound wooden chamber tombs, vertical stone-chamber tombs, and horizontal-entry stone-chamber tombs. Finds included large quantities of various types of pottery, weapons such as ring-pommel swords, and quantities of armour including iron plate armour. The first excavation identified 96 tombs, including seven wooden chamber tombs, and yielded about 1,200 pieces of pottery, among them two duck-shaped vessels, some 200 iron artefacts including six ring-pommel swords, and three gold and gilt-bronze ornaments. The second excavation examined a further 101 tombs and a Bronze Age pit-house, and produced 960 pieces of pottery along with a large quantity of iron artefacts. The tomb remains and artefacts of Jungsan-dong provide important material for tracing the development of burial customs and pottery through the Samhan and Three Kingdoms (Silla) periods.
