Jeongsonggangsa Temple, Jincheon
진천 정송강사 · 鎭川 鄭松江祠

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine holding the memorial tablet of Jeong Cheol (1536–1593), pen name Songgang, a civil official and poet of early Joseon. Jeong Cheol displayed his natural talent more as a poet than as a politician. While serving as a provincial governor he composed Gwandong byeolgok, Hunmin-ga and Seongsan byeolgok, and after retiring to the countryside he left behind many gasa (verse narratives) and danga (short songs), including Samiingok and Sok-miingok. This shrine was built when Song Si-yeol had Jeong Cheol's grave, originally in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, moved in the sixth year of King Hyeonjong (1665) to its present site, which he had chosen. The building was too small, so the present one was newly built in 1979. The shrine measures three kan across the front and two kan to the side, and its roof is a gabled (matbae) roof shaped like the character 人 when seen from the side. Today the shrine houses relics of Jeong Cheol — a silver cup (eunbae) and a jade cup (okbae) — and to the south of the shrine stand his grave, a poetry monument and a stele pavilion.
