Galhyeonseong Fortress
갈현성 · 葛峴城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis mountain fortress, located in Yongun-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, was built on a mountaintop at an elevation of 263m, at Galgogae Pass, which leads from Yongun-dong across to Secheon-dong. It takes the form of a wall encircling the summit and has a perimeter of about 350m. The eastern wall, 2m high, was built with square stones fitted together on the outer face, while the western wall was only partially built, making use of the natural terrain. The fortress has an oval plan elongated north to south, and the site of a south gate 4.8m wide remains. At the centre of the summit there is a hollow with traces here and there that appear to be stonework, presumed to be the remains of a storage facility. Fragments of Three Kingdoms-period pottery and roof tiles can be found within the fortress, indicating the period in which it was built.
