Chungminsa Temple, Goesan
괴산 충민사 · 槐山 忠愍祠

Chungminsa enshrines the memorial tablets of Kim Si-min (1544–1592), posthumously honoured as Chungmugong, and Kim Je-gap (1525–1592), posthumously honoured as Chungsukgong, both of whom distinguished themselves during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598). When the invasions broke out, Kim Si-min became magistrate of Jinju and inflicted major defeats on enemy forces at Sacheon, Goseong and Gimhae; at the battle of Jinjuseong Fortress he defeated an army of 20,000 with a force of only about 3,800 men. When Japanese troops advanced on Wonju during the invasions, Kim Je-gap led government soldiers and righteous army volunteers into Yeongwonsanseong Fortress to resist them, but when the fortress fell he died for his principles together with his wife, Lady Yi, and his son Kim Si-baek. During the reign of King Seonjo, this shrine was built to honour their integrity and their achievements.
