It is said that in the past many dolmens (goindol, burial structures supported on stones) were distributed across the area of Cheonnae-ri and Seongsan-ri in Hwawon-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu. Today, however, only eight remain here, uniquely arranged in a row running north to south. Three stand within the grounds of Hwajangsa Temple, one straddles the temple wall, and four are located outside the temple, on the outskirts of Hwawon Correctional Institution. The villagers call them Chilseongbawi, the Seven Stars Rocks. The dolmens here use huge, irregularly shaped boulders as capstones, arranged in a single line to form one group, with the long axis of the capstones running northeast to southwest. Whether supporting stones once existed cannot be confirmed from their present appearance, but it is presumed there originally were none. This is one of the largest dolmen sites of its kind still existing in the region.
