This is the tomb of General Nam I (1441–1468), posthumously honoured as Chungmugong, a military official of the early Joseon period. In 1467 (the 13th year of King Sejo), he suppressed the Yi Si-ae Rebellion and was awarded first-class merit as a Jeokgae Gongsin (Merit Subject for Quelling Rebellion), and was later raised to second-class military merit for his role in subjugating the Jurchen. However, when King Yejong came to the throne in 1468, he was executed for allegedly plotting treason after being falsely accused by Yu Ja-gwang, in an event known as the "Namyi Purge". The tomb precinct takes the form of a pair of burial mounds, in which he was buried together with his wife, and it was rearranged in later times. The original form of the tomb has been somewhat altered, and the stone furnishings are a mixture of old and new pieces. The gravestone beside the mound, inscribed with the name of the deceased, was newly erected in 1971, while the encircling stones, the rectangular stone placed between the mound and the offering table where the spirit of the deceased is said to rest, the offering table, the incense-burner stone and the ornamental stone pillars below the mound were all added in modern times. At the lower end of the precinct stands a pair of stone statues of civil officials, typical in form of the early Joseon period. They wear a bokdu cap and official robes, with both hands concealed in their sleeves holding a ceremonial tablet. Their deeply incised eyes and curling beards give a strong, guardian-like impression, while their angular shoulders and flat rendering of the robe folds reflect a style popular in the 15th century. Retaining the artistic character of the early Joseon period intact, these stone statues are important for revealing the characteristics of tomb culture in the Gyeonggi region.
