This is the birthplace of Kang Min-cheom (posthumous title Eunnyeol, d. 1021), a celebrated general of the Goryeo dynasty. Kang Min-cheom passed the civil service examination during the reign of King Mokjong (r. 997–1009), and when the Jurchen invaded in 1012, the third year of King Hyeonjong, he drove them back together with Munyeon of the Dobuseo and others. Then in 1018, when the Khitan general So Pae-ap invaded with 100,000 troops, he took the field as deputy to General Gang Gam-chan and won a great victory over the enemy at Heunghwajin. For this achievement he was made Eungyang-sangjanggun-jugung, then rose to Usan-gisangsi and was honoured as a meritorious subject with the title Chuseong-chiri-ikdae-gongsin, and the following year became Jijungchusa-byeongbusangseo. At the birthplace today stand a shrine and a yuheobi, a stele erected to record a place associated with a sage of the past and to invite later generations to honour them; on a rock behind the shrine is carved an inscription reading, in effect, "site associated with Lord Kang Eunnyeol." In the 1980s the shrine, main gate and ritual hall were newly built and the site was refurbished.
