This mountain fortress stands atop Gomuraebong Peak, 197 metres above sea level, in Bonggok-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. Dating to the Baekje period, it takes the form of a wall encircling the mountaintop and runs 470 metres in circumference. The wall was built of natural stone, with only the outer face stone-faced while the interior was packed with earth and rubble. The south wall was built along a ridge at 185 metres above sea level, and of its gates only the site of the south gate survives, about 2.8 metres wide. The south wall descends toward the west wall, rises slightly again, then turns to run into the north wall. The north wall climbs almost in a straight line to the summit, where it turns at a right angle to form the east wall, which drops steeply to meet the south wall. Except along the north wall, the ground inside is flat and is thought to have held building sites. Here many scattered pottery fragments have been found, including Baekje-style gaebae (lidded dishes), along with roof-tile fragments that readily turn up, indicating the period during which the fortress was in use. Surrounded on three sides, all but the south, by the Duma Stream, and set on steep slopes, this fortress is thought to have been built to watch over the route from Daejeon to Yeonsan.
