This is the tomb of Kim Wi-ong, the founding ancestor of the Kim clan of Samcheok and a grandson of King Gyeongsun of Silla. The title 'Siljikgun' (Prince of Siljik) originates from the time when King Taejo Wang Geon of Goryeo accepted the submission of King Gyeongsun of Silla and enfeoffed him as Prince of Siljikgun, treating him accordingly. In 1838, the fourth year of King Heonjong of Joseon, Kim Hak-jo, Kim Heung-il and others petitioned Yi Gyu-heon, the magistrate of Samcheok, and excavated the tombs known as Sajikneung and Garyaneung; these were confirmed to be the tombs of the Prince of Siljikgun and his consort, Lady Park of the Miryang Park clan. According to tradition, whenever villagers tried to dig a grave near this tomb, a spring would gush out and a white tiger would appear, so that no grave could be made there. In 1937, at the petition of the Kim clan of Samcheok, the tomb was renovated and raised to the status of a royal tomb, and every year on the fifteenth day of the third lunar month descendants hold a memorial rite there.
