Seongbuk-dong Fortress was built using the terrain of the peak of the mountain south of Seongjae Pass (230m above sea level), which leads over to Seongbuk-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. It was built encircling the mountaintop and has a circumference of about 450m. There are two gate sites: one on the north-eastern wall giving access to the summit, and another at the centre of the northern wall, near which lies a well site. The eastern and southern walls appear to have been cut from the natural terrain, though even their original form is now hard to make out. Traces of building sites are found throughout the fortress, and fragments of earthenware and roof tiles bearing lattice and wave patterns have been discovered there. Given its scale and geographical setting, this mountain fortress is thought to have occupied a position on a major route linking Daejeon and Buyeo, and to have played an important role connecting it with the various mountain fortresses of eastern Daejeon.
