Gyeondusanseong Fortress
견두산성 · 犬頭山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis mountain fortress was built encircling the summit of Mount Gaemeori, also called Mount Gyeondu, at an elevation of 363 m, 1.3 km southeast of Gyejoksanseong Fortress; the fortress wall runs about 280 m in circumference. The wall was built of natural stone making use of the natural bedrock, but apart from part of the south wall, most of it has collapsed, so that today only its outline can be traced. On the eastern part of the fortress, a raised platform about 6 m in diameter was built; this is thought to have been a jangdae, a command post from which an officer could keep watch. Just below the mountain fortress, the road between Sintanjin and Okcheon winds around like a belt to the east and north, and to the east of the fortress Daecheong Lake can be seen below. The fortress thus appears to have been built to monitor the road and the waterway, and seems to have served as a satellite, or "child," fortress to Gyejoksanseong Fortress.
