고봉산성 · 古鳳山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGobongsanseong, on the 340 m Gobongsan Mountain in Jusan-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, is a stone hill fortress about 250 m in circumference. It encircles the summit of the mountain, a form known as a "teomoe-sik" fortress. In plan it is oval, stretching lengthwise to the east following the contours of the hill. Only around three courses of stonework survive on the western wall face, and the rest of the wall has almost entirely collapsed, so that only its outline can now be traced. Jilhyeonseong Fortress lies about 300 m away, and Gobongsanseong is thought to have served as its subsidiary fortress (jaseong). Gobongsanseong also stands alongside Jilhyeonseong across Jiltigogae Pass, and is thought to have been built to keep watch over this pass.
