This is the tomb of General Sin Sung-gyeom, posthumously titled Jangjeolgong, a meritorious subject who helped found Goryeo. Founding ancestor of the Pyeongsan Sin clan, in 918 he joined Bae Hyeon-gyeong, Hong Yu and Bok Ji-gyeom in deposing Gungye and enthroning Wang Geon, contributing to the founding of Goryeo. In 927, the 10th year of King Taejo, he fought the army of Gyeon Hwon of Later Baekje at Gongsan in Daegu. When King Taejo was surrounded by enemy troops and in mortal danger, Sin Sung-gyeom disguised himself in the king's clothes and fought in his place, and was killed. The enemy, mistaking him for King Taejo, cut off his head and carried it away; it is said that King Taejo then had a head made of gold and held the funeral with the headless body. To prevent grave robbery, it is said that although there is only one tomb, three burial mounds were built; today three mounds stand side by side at the site. Within the burial ground stand a sindobi (a stele erected beside a road near a tomb to honour the lifetime achievements of a king or high official) and a gravestone.
