This is the birthplace of Yi Jeong-jik (pen name Seokjeong, 1842–1910), a great scholar of Silhak (Practical Learning) in the late Joseon period. Well versed in history, Silhak, and calligraphy and painting, Seokjeong accompanied a diplomatic envoy to China at the age of twenty-eight and, during his stay there, thoroughly studied both Eastern and Western scholarship. He later synthesised this learning into his own thought, leaving behind a posthumous manuscript titled Yeonseoksanbang Mijeonggo. The house is built in the style typical of a Korean farmhouse, with a thatched roof set on a 20cm stone platform, and was built 120 years ago.
