A yoji (kiln site) is a place where kilns for firing porcelain, roof tiles, or other ceramic wares once stood. Kiln Site No. 1 is located 2km from Sonhang village in Jangcheon-ri, and Kiln Site No. 2 lies about 1.5km further down toward Sonhang village. Kiln Site No. 1 was completely destroyed by a landslide, and the centre of Kiln Site No. 2 was entirely destroyed by road construction. The artefacts collected from the two kiln sites are fragments of bowls, dishes, small cups, and bottles, similar in shape and pattern; however, in terms of the clay body (taeto) and glaze used to make the porcelain, the ware from Kiln Site No. 1 is of lower quality than that from Kiln Site No. 2. Among the inlaid (sanggam) designs are willow, peony-scroll, duck, and chrysanthemum motifs, while the stamped (inhwamun) designs include flower-petal patterns. The Jangcheon-ri kiln site is an important place that shows the transition from the inlaid celadon (sanggam cheongja) of the late Goryeo period to the inlaid buncheong ware (sanggam buncheong) of the early Joseon period.
