Chamseongdan Altar Cheonjaegung Palace Site, Ganghwa
강화 참성단 천재궁 터 · 江華 塹星壇 天齋宮址

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krCheonjaegung Palace Site is where the jaegung (齋宮), a hall used to prepare the ritual vessels and offerings for the rites performed at Chamseongdan Altar, once stood. The exact date of its construction is not known, but a wooden plaque inscribed with a poem composed by the Goryeo-period scholar Mokeun Yi Saek was once kept there, and it is said that King Taejong of Joseon stayed here before ascending the throne to perform rites to heaven. This suggests the site was already established in the Goryeo period. The site today consists of three tiers of stone retaining walls and covers an area of about 70 pyeong (roughly 231 square metres). Nearby stand a geumpyo, a marker forbidding unauthorised entry, and several wells. Old records such as the Yeojidoseo refer to the site by the alternative names "Cheonjaeam" or "Cheonjaegung".
