Gyehyeonsanseong Fortress encircles the northern peak above Dakjae in Samgoe-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, and has a perimeter of 220 m. Most of the walls have collapsed, but a section on the southeast retains its original form. Up to a height of 1.8 m from the base the wall was built tapering slightly inward, while the roughly 1.5 m of wall above that was built almost vertically. Fragments of earthenware and roof tiles believed to date from Baekje have been found here, suggesting that a building once stood on the site. Inside the fortress a flat terrace 6–8 m wide runs along the southern wall, and a facility thought to be a jangdae (command post) stands to the north. Traces of gate sites can be seen in both the southern and northern walls. Gyehyeonsanseong is linked to Chujeongnisanseong Fortress and Geumseongsanseong Fortress in the Majeon area of Geumsan-gun, South Chungcheong Province, and appears to have played a role in defending against enemies advancing from that direction. It is also connected eastward to Seongchisanseong Fortress and westward to Sohodongsanseong, Sajeongseong and Bomunsanseong fortresses.
