Pungnimjeongsa Temple, Boeun
보은 풍림정사 · 報恩 楓林精舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine enshrining the spirit tablet of Bak Mun-ho, a Neo-Confucian scholar of the late Joseon period; the site was originally where he studied Neo-Confucianism, wrote books and trained younger scholars. It was built in 1872, the ninth year of Emperor Gojong's reign, and measures six kan across the front and two kan to the side; the roof is a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof, which forms the shape of the Chinese character for 'eight' (八) when viewed from the side. The calligraphy reading 'Pungnimjeongsa' on the building was written by Song Geun-su, and the site still retains woodblocks and some wooden movable type used to print Hosanjip, the collected writings of Bak Mun-ho. Behind Pungnimjeongsa stands Huseong Yeongdang, a portrait shrine enshrining portraits of Bak Mun-ho, Yi I and Song Si-yeol, among others. Huseong Yeongdang was built in 1906, and the portrait of Bak Mun-ho was added in 1921.
