A kiln site (yoji) is where ceramics, tiles or other wares were fired. This site lies on the southern slope of a low hill in Gwangeum-ri, and was a place where buncheong ware decorated with stamped (inhwa) and inlaid patterns was fired in the early Joseon period. The Yeonggaji, a gazetteer of Andong-bu in Gyeongsang-do compiled in the 41st year of King Seonjo (1608), records that the production site for Gwangeum's earthenware jars lay 25 ri from the Andong government office, noting that 'the vessels are splendid and their colour is red.' The white clay raw material used at the time still remains at the kiln site, and discarded pottery shards form a small mound. The Gwangeum-dong buncheong ware kiln site is an important source of material for the study of the history of Korean ceramics.
