This is a mountain fortress in Masan-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon, built of stone encircling the summit of a hill 220 m above sea level. The wall is about 200 m in circumference; most of it has collapsed, making the original form difficult to discern, and only part of the southern wall survives. It was built by cutting back the slope of the hill, facing the outer side with stone and filling the inner side with earth. As a result, the inner part of the wall forms flat ground, creating a passage resembling an air-raid shelter, which can be seen along the southern and northern sections of the wall. At a higher point on the north-eastern wall survives the site of a jangdae, a command post where a general would stand to direct troops in time of war, measuring about 4 m wide and 2 m high. A similar, collapsed structure exists at the corner of the south-western wall; since this corresponds to the area near a ridge extending to the south-west, it is thought to have been built to reinforce a weak point in the defences. The fortress is linked to Nogoseong Fortress to the north-west and to Gyejoksanseong Fortress, a strategic stronghold of the region, to the south-west. It is known to have been built during the Baekje period.
