This is the site of an earthen fortress built on a low hill rising from a broad plain to the northwest of Sanseong-ri, Yesan-eup, Yesan-gun, South Chungcheong Province. It measures 655m in circumference, with walls about 2.4m high; old records refer to it as Osanseong and give its circumference as 2,002 cheok (a traditional unit of length). The fortress is naturally defended by the Muhancheon Stream, which curves around it from west to north. No artefacts or remains have been found, apart from occasional fragments of earthenware and roof tiles. The origin of the fortress is not certain, but since Yesan was known as Osan or Gosan under Baekje, the area appears to have been a central site during the Baekje period. Moreover, it is said to be the place where Baekje restoration forces fought against Tang Chinese troops, and the fortress is accordingly believed to have been built during the Baekje period.
