Dolmen in Daesan-ri, Ganghwa
강화 대산리 고인돌 · 江華 大山里 고인돌

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are generally thought to be the burials of a ruling class that held economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into the table type, in which four supporting stones are erected to form a stone chamber topped with a huge, flat capstone, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small supporting stones set beneath a capstone. This dolmen, located on a ridge about 20 m above sea level on Buksan, the eastern peak of Goryeosan Mountain in Ganghwa, is of the table type. The ground was raised slightly with earth and gravel, and the supporting stones were erected on top before the capstone was placed, but the structure has now collapsed and settled. The capstone measures 3.68 m in length and 2.6 m in width.
