경주간묘 · 慶州諫墓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the tomb of Kim Hu-jik, a loyal subject during the reign of King Jinpyeong (579–632), the 26th ruler of Silla, located in Hwangseong-dong, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. In 580, the second year of King Jinpyeong, he served as byeongburyeong, a post equivalent to today's Minister of National Defence, and advised the king to give up his indulgence in hunting and attend to state affairs, but the king did not heed him. When he fell ill and was dying, he left instructions to his three sons that he be buried beside the road the king used for hunting, saying that even after death he would try to awaken the king. On hearing this, the king deeply repented and never went hunting again, and for this Kim Hu-jik has been remembered as a loyal subject. The tomb is a round earthen mound, piled high with soil. In front of it stands a stele erected in 1710, the 36th year of King Sukjong, by Nam Ji-hun of Gyeongju to honour Kim Hu-jik's loyalty.
