Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the grave of three generations of the Gwon family: Gwon Geun (1352–1409), pen name Yangchon, a civil official and scholar of the late Goryeo and early Joseon periods, his son Gwon Je, and his grandson Gwon Ram. After passing the Seonggyunsi examination in 1368, the seventeenth year of King Gongmin's reign, Gwon Geun held various official posts. When King Gongmin (r. 1352–1374) died, he joined Jeong Mong-ju and Jeong Do-jeon in advocating rejection of Yuan and alignment with Ming, and in 1389, the second year of King Chang's reign, he travelled to Ming China as an envoy. After the First Strife of Princes broke out in 1398, the seventh year of King Taejo's reign, he argued for the abolition of the death penalty system, making a great contribution to the establishment of royal authority. He subsequently served as Daejehak (Grand Academician) before rising to the position of chief state councillor, and, being an outstanding writer, took part in various court compilation projects including the Dongguk saryak. Gwon Je (1387–1445), Gwon Geun's second son, rose to the post of Right State Councillor, took part in compiling the Goryeosa, and wrote the Yongbieocheonga. Gwon Ram (1416–1465) loved reading from an early age and excelled in scholarship; after coming first in the state examination, he held various official posts. During the Gyeyu Coup of 1453, the first year of King Danjong's reign, he laid the groundwork for King Sejo's seizure of power, and for his repeated contributions in assisting King Sejo he rose to the post of Left State Councillor. In front of each of the three graves stand a gravestone, a jangmyeongdeung (a stone lantern erected before a tomb) and a pair of stone civil officials, and all the burial mounds are circular.
