Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis shrine enshrines the memorial tablet of General Choe Ho (?–1597), a military official of the mid-Joseon period. He came first in the military service examination in 1576, the ninth year of King Seonjo, and went on to hold a series of posts, becoming Army Commander of Hamgyeong-do in 1594, the twenty-seventh year of King Seonjo. In 1596, the twenty-ninth year of King Seonjo, as Naval Commander of Chungcheong-do he suppressed the rebellion of Yi Mong-hak. When the Jeongyu War, the second Japanese invasion of Korea, broke out in 1597, the thirtieth year of King Seonjo, he fought alongside Won Gyun and others at the Battle of Chilcheollyang and died in action. In 1604, the thirty-seventh year of King Seonjo, he was posthumously honoured as a second-class Cheongnan-gongsin (meritorious subject) for his part in suppressing the Yi Mong-hak rebellion. This shrine was built by Choe Ho's descendant Choe Ho-seon in 1729, the fifth year of King Yeongjo, and was repaired in 1906 to its present form. The building has a gabled roof shaped like the character 人, with three bays across the front and one bay to the side.
