Dolmen Group in Daegok-dong
대곡동 고인돌군 · 大谷洞 고인돌群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDolmens are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also called goindol, and are generally understood to be the graves of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens fall into two types: the table type, in which four support stones are set upright to form a stone chamber topped with a huge flat capstone, and the go-board (baduk) type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small support stones set beneath the capstone. This dolmen group is distributed along a low ridge running east–west on Gahyeonsan Mountain in Daegok-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, and comprises ten dolmens in total, a mixture of table-type and go-board-type. Of the ten, apart from two table-type dolmens, most have been buried or scattered and damaged around the site. Even so, stones that appear to be support stones of table-type dolmens remain in place, suggesting that table-type dolmens originally predominated in this group. Although the group has not yet been excavated, it is valued as important material for the study of dolmens in the region north of the Hangang River.
