Tombs of the Three Kingdoms period are densely distributed across the area around this Sangdae tomb at Daedae-ri. Among them, this tomb clearly retains its mound, about 15m in diameter and 2.5m high. As no excavation has been carried out, its internal structure and exact date cannot be determined, but pottery sherds collected in the vicinity and the tomb's external features suggest that its occupant was a person of considerable power. Excavations carried out in parts of the neighbouring Hadae and Jungdae tomb groups have confirmed tombs dating to the fifth century. Stoneware (dojil pottery) and various ironware were excavated from the Jungdae tomb group, and these artefacts closely resemble items excavated in the Gyeongju region. Across the entire hill range from Sangdae to Jeo-ri, tombs were built continuously from the second to the sixth century. Given that this tomb group ranges widely, from small and medium-sized tombs to relatively large ones such as this one, it is clear that a considerably powerful political group was rooted here over a long period. Together with the Daedae-ri Tomb, a City/Do Monument of Ulsan Metropolitan City, this Sangdae tomb is regarded as important material for revealing the existence of Usisanguk, believed to have existed in the ancient Ulsan region, and for clarifying the society and culture of that time.
