Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the grave of Jeong In-ji (1396-1478), pen name Hagyeokjae, a great scholar and statesman of the early Joseon period. In 1414, the 14th year of King Taejong, he passed the state examination at the top of the list and went on to hold numerous official posts, taking part in compilation projects such as the Goryeosa, the Yongbieocheonga and the Annals of King Taejo. Under King Sejong, as a scholar of the Hall of Worthies (Jiphyeonjeon), he contributed to the creation of Hunminjeongeum. In 1453, the first year of King Danjong, during the Gyeyu Coup he assisted King Sejo and was made a first-class meritorious subject, later rising to the position of Chief State Councillor. From the reign of King Danjong to that of King Seongjong, as a statesman of learning and virtue he contributed greatly to calming public sentiment; his writings include the Hagyeokjaejip. There are no special structures within the tomb grounds. A sindobi (a memorial stele erected beside the road near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official), originally set up below the grave with an inscription composed by Seo Geo-jeong, had been lost, and a new one was erected in 1958.
