Dolmen in Hagik-dong
학익동 고인돌
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJiseongmyo (dolmens) are the representative tombs of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are generally understood to be the burials of a ruling class who held economic wealth or political power. Dolmens in Korea are divided into the table type, in which four support stones are set up to form a stone chamber topped with a massive flat capstone, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground with small support stones set beneath a capstone. The Hagik-dong dolmen originally stood inside the Incheon Detention Centre (formerly a juvenile reformatory) but has since been relocated and is now displayed in the outdoor exhibition area of the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum. Belonging to the table type, this dolmen was excavated in 1927, yielding fragments of comb-pattern pottery, stone arrowheads and a stone dagger from inside the chamber; the excavated artefacts are kept at the National Museum of Korea.
