Yangheonsu Seungjeon Hall Stele
양헌수 승전비 · 梁憲洙 勝戰碑

This stele commemorates the achievements of General Yang Heon-su (1816–1888), who defeated French forces and won victory during the Byeongin Western Disturbance (1866). In October 1866 (the third year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon), France invaded Korea with seven warships of its Far East Fleet, using the suppression of Catholicism as a pretext. At the time General Yang Heon-su, holding the post of Sunmu Cheonchong, hid about 500 riflemen in ambush at Jeongjoksanseong Fortress and repelled the French in a night attack. General Yang Heon-su passed the military examination in 1838 (the fourth year of King Heonjong) and became a Seonjeon-gwan, a royal messenger-officer. For his merit in the Byeongin Western Disturbance he was specially promoted to Left Governor of Hanseongbu, and he went on to serve as Deputy Commander and within the Geumwiyeong and Eoyeongcheong royal guard commands, before holding the posts of Minister of Punishments, Commander of the Geumwiyeong, and Minister of Public Works. The stele is a tall rectangle with its top edge rounded. It was erected in 1873 (the tenth year of Emperor Gojong) and is protected by a stele pavilion.
