Jiseongmyo refers to dolmens, the stone burial mounds of prehistoric times. Originally eight dolmens were distributed within a radius of 30m at the entrance to the western field in front of Hangnim-ri village. Local residents have long regarded these dolmens as numbering seven, calling them "Chilseong Rock" (Seven Stars Rock), and some are maintained within a protective fence. The large stone placed on top of the supporting stones is called the capstone; the capstones of the Hangnim-ri dolmens generally measure 30–60cm, and the capstones of the two largest dolmens measure 340cm × 260cm × 20cm. When farmland was being reorganised in 1968, stone-lined tombs and stone-lidded pit tombs were found around the dolmens, and inside them were unearthed a polished stone dagger and red burnished pottery — made by applying a red coating to the surface of a vessel and rubbing it smooth and glossy. Hangnim-ri is located close to the coast, making it important material for the study of Bronze Age culture in this area.
