Mungyeong Gonggojogi Tomb
문경공고조기묘 · 文敬公高兆基墓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the tomb of Go Jogi (1088–1157), an early Goryeo-period literary official also known by the sobriquet Gyerim. While serving as Seongju, the title of the ruler of Tamna (present-day Jeju), he was appointed royal inspector (sieosa) in 1129, the seventh year of King Injong, and in 1130 travelled to the Jin dynasty as an envoy. He held a succession of offices, eventually rising to the post of Jungseo Siranpyeongjangsa, a senior chancellery position. In 1135, the thirteenth year of King Injong, he also made a great contribution, together with Kim Bu-sik, to suppressing the Myocheong Rebellion. Among the tombs of Jeju Island, it is a square-form tomb whose stone furnishings are the best preserved, and for this reason it has been designated a Jeju Island monument. Every year on the ninth day of the fourth lunar month, a memorial rite is held there, hosted by the Jeju Go clan.
