This is the grave of General Kim Wan (1577–1635), posthumously honoured with the title Yangmugong, a renowned military commander of the mid-Joseon period. He passed the state examination in 1615, the seventh year of King Gwanghaegun, and rose through posts including Commander of Gosanjin garrison to Military Commander of Hwanghae Province; in recognition of his many achievements his rank was raised posthumously to Minister of War. During the Imjin War (the Japanese invasions of Korea, 1592–1598) he displayed great valour under General Yi Bok-nam, the Military Commander of Jeolla Province, and in 1624, the twelfth year of King Injo, he rendered great service in suppressing the Yi Gwal Rebellion. The grave, originally located on the ancestral burial ground northeast of Haenam-myeon, was moved to its present site in 1718, the forty-fourth year of King Sukjong. A spirit-path stele — a stele erected beside a road near a tomb to commemorate the lifetime achievements of a king or high official — stands 150m from the grave site; its inscription was composed by Park Se-chae and its calligraphy written by Jo Myeong-gyo.
