A kiln site (yoji) is a place where ceramics, roof tiles or other vessels were fired. The Ssangbuk-ri kiln site beside Buyeo Library was long known for the square and round building cornerstones exposed at the surface, and, because eave-end roof tiles (sumaksae) with lotus designs and other relics had been excavated there, it was thought to be a temple site. Investigation, however, revealed that it was in fact a place where Baekje earthenware, roof tiles and bricks were fired. Roof-tile ends (wadang) bearing lotus designs, and one inscribed with the characters 大唐 ("Great Tang"), were excavated, along with many roof-tile fragments stamped with the characters 寅, 丙, 斯, 午 and 止. A square granite cornerstone, presumed to be a Baekje-period relic, was also found.
