Ha Ryun Burial Ground, Jinju
진주 하륜 묘역

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis burial ground, comprising six tombs including that of Ha Ryun, a civil official of the Joseon Dynasty in the reign of King Taejong, lies on a hill 120 m above sea level. Ha Ryun (1347–1416) was a disciple of Yi Saek in the late Goryeo period; he opposed the campaign to conquer Liaodong, and when the Joseon Dynasty was founded he also opposed the proposal to make Gyeryongsan Mountain the site of the new capital. He assisted Yi Bang-won in the First Strife of Princes and helped him ascend the throne as King Taejong, for which he was ranked a first-class meritorious subject. He rose to the post of Yeonguijeongbusa, chief state councillor, and has been compared to Zhang Liang (Zhang Zifang) of the Han dynasty. The site holds the family tombs of the Jinyang Ha clan, including Ha Ryun's own, together with those of his grandfather Ha Siwon, his grandmother of the Jinyang Jeong clan, his father Ha Yullin, and his mother of the Jinyang Gang clan. Four of the tombs, including his grandfather's, are rectangular in plan and ringed with kerbstones (hoseok). Because the tombs of three generations of the family stand together in one place, the site allows the change in tomb form from the late Goryeo to the early Joseon period to be traced. Ha Ryun's own tomb also has a distinctive octagonal form, making it valuable material for the study of early Joseon tombs.
