Yongjinjin, Ganghwa
강화 용진진 · 江華 龍津鎭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA jin was a fortified garrison town where soldiers were stationed. Yongjinjin was placed under the administration of a byeongma manho, a military commander assigned to each jin during the Joseon dynasty, and is said to have had a garrison of 101 troops. It once had facilities including four cannon emplacements (poja) and twenty-six musket emplacements (chongjwa), but most of its stone ramparts no longer survive. Only two gates remained, their upper sections shaped like rainbows, and in 1999 a pavilion was newly restored above them. Yongjinjin was built in 1656, the seventh year of King Hyojong of Joseon, and is said to have overseen three batteries: Garisan Battery, Jwagang Battery and Yongdang Battery.
