Sugok Octagonal -shaped Bunmyo Group, Jinju
진주 수곡 팔각형 분묘군

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are the tombs of Ha Hyeon — who served as jikjang (director) of the Saonseo, the office in charge of wine and beverages, during the reign of King Taejong of Joseon — together with his father and mother, located on a low, flat hill to the south-west of Yosan village. Fragments of Gaya pottery found around the tombs show that this area had been used as a burial site since long before. Octagonal retaining stones, comprising base stones, side stones and coping stones, were built and then covered with earth to complete the mounds. In particular, the coping stones of Ha Hyeon's tomb have upturned corners on their upper surface, giving them a form resembling the roof stones of a stone pagoda. In front of the tombs stand a stele, an offering table and a stone lantern, flanked on either side by stone statues of civil officials. Tombs of this external form are rare, and since their date of construction is clearly established as the early Joseon period, they provide important material for research into the tombs of this era.
