Sukseonongju An Ssi Tomb (Seonbin)
숙선옹주(선빈)안씨 묘 · 淑善翁主(善嬪)安氏 墓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe occupant of this tomb, Sukseonongju, Lady An, later titled Seonbin (d. 1468), was a daughter of An Ui of the Sunheung An clan, who then held the honorary post of Magistrate of Hanseong. She entered the palace as a court lady and became a royal consort of King Taejong, the third king of Joseon. With Taejong she had one son and two daughters: Prince Ingnyeong, Yi Chi (1422–1464); Princess Soseuk (birth year unknown – 1456, the second year of King Sejo); and Princess Gyeongsin (dates of birth and death unknown). The title ongju usually denotes the daughter of a royal consort, but in the early Joseon period it was also used for the king's consorts themselves, who were called gungju or ongju. She was granted the title Sukseonongju in 1421, the third year of King Sejong, and in 1872, the ninth year of Emperor Gojong, was raised to the senior first rank as Seonbin. The tomb consists of one grave mound and eight stone figures, and was built at its present site at the foot of Bonghwasan Mountain at the time of her death in 1468. It is historically valuable as physical evidence that the title ongju was applied to royal consorts even before the promulgation of the Gyeongguk daejeon, the Joseon legal code, and its funerary stone figures, well preserved from the burial rites of the reign of King Sejo of Joseon, are recognised for their value as research material.
