Gadal Tumuli in Saenggok-dong
생곡동 가달고분군 · 生谷洞 加達古墳群

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese tombs of the Gimhae region form the southernmost of Korea's Three Kingdoms-period group burial sites. Stone-lined chamber tombs lie on the summit and southern slope of the hill, while wooden chamber tombs lie on its eastern and northern slopes; 26 tombs in all have been confirmed. Most had been looted, but a relatively large number of artefacts were still recovered. The ironware included iron axes, sickles, armour plates, knives and arrowheads. Tomb No. 15 in particular yielded iron fishhooks and a harpoon alongside weapons and armour, an unusual find rarely seen at Three Kingdoms-period sites in Korea. A wide variety of pottery was also found, including a distinctive lidded mounted dish, a type of stemmed serving dish that appears only in the Busan and Gimhae area within a limited period and is not found in the Gyeongju region. Judging from the materials and artefacts recovered, the wooden chamber tombs date to the fourth to fifth centuries, and the pit-type stone-lined chamber tombs to the late fifth to early sixth centuries, showing that this cluster of small and medium-sized tombs was formed over a comparatively long span of time.
