Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA soeburi site is a place where iron was produced. This soeburi site at Daean-dong lies on a mountainside facing a small stream of Dongdaesan Mountain, in an area known as "Gipeun-gol" (Deep Valley). Part of its furnace, 1 m high and 2 m in diameter, survives well, and embankments about 3 m long remain on either side, so that the site is in good condition overall. The Daean-dong soeburi site, too, is thought to have produced iron using ore extracted from the soil at the nearby Dalcheon ironworks, which was the largest iron-producing area in the Yeongnam region during the Joseon period. Around the site, traces of charcoal-burning and slag produced during the smelting process survive, confirming that refining work took place here. Because the furnace, the central facility for iron production, is so well preserved, the site is a valuable source for research in this field.
